Open Call Orbiting the glitch

‘Orbiting the Glitch’ will be a group show based on the exploration of glitch aesthetics in audio and visual production through the work of the collective glitch[dot]cool. Since 2019, when the glitch[dot]cool collective was established, their core value is the notion of community. The collective is built and expanded through community by sharing knowledge and skills. We want to expand this community even more, so we invite all the glitches out there to come and meet, create, destruct and re-construct, think, discuss, and make cool art. We invite creatives from around the world to submit an idea for a digital artwork which can be anything related to glitch aesthetics and the intersection of art and technology. We are looking for artists who have an interest in new media art, net-art, interactive/generative visual media, 3D digital art, cyber-performance, glitch art, or music.

We want to experiment in the virtual space through various forms of art and explore the performativity of the glitch genre. For that reason, we also encourage applications from performers and dancers who are either using generative software like Touchdesigner or would be interested in collaborating with other sound or visual based artists involved with the project. The exhibition will take place at NewArtCity virtual art space during October 2021. (exact dates TBC) This project is a collaboration between glitch[dot]cool collective and the independent curator Rafailia Thiraiou.

Rafailia Thiraiou is an emerging curator originally from Greece, currently based in Birmingham, UK. As a curator she values the notion of community and engagement. By forming communities she believes we encourage and enable change. Through realizing her practice, after receiving a Masters in Art History and Curating, she started focusing on curating online spaces,new media art and the relation of technology and art. Through online communities we get to decide who we choose to be. Time and space are blurred.. The dualism between physical and online space is what intrigues her and where her research is focused.
