Brushed Layers

Celebrate the richness of the physical world through traditional paint. Capture what moves you — portraits, still life, landscapes, architecture, botanicals, everyday objects, or abstract interpretations of lived experience. We're looking for work that reflects a personal perspective and a genuine connection to your medium.

Requirements:

Submit up to 3 high-resolution images of original painted works. Each piece must be created using traditional media — watercolor, oil, acrylic, gouache, casein, tempera, or encaustic. Each submission should include a title and a short artist statement (2–3 sentences) describing what inspired the piece and your connection to the subject.

Guidelines:

The strongest submissions will demonstrate intentional mark-making, a distinct visual voice, and a sensitivity to color, light, and composition. We value process and presence — show us work that could only have been made by hand. Mixed media is welcome as long as traditional painting is the foundation.

All submitted work must be original and created by the submitting artist. Do not include works that prominently feature copyrighted imagery, logos, or branded content as the primary subject.

No AI-generated or AI-assisted artwork will be accepted. This open call is exclusively for traditional painters. We're here to honor the craft, the process, and the human hand behind every piece.

Medium Details: For each piece, please include the medium (e.g. watercolor, oil), surface (e.g. canvas, paper, board), dimensions, and year completed.
