Barbican Arts Group Trust's 18th annual open exhibition is open to fine artists at all career stages. Past selectors have included Timothy Hyman RA, Graham Crowley and Turner Prize Winners Tai Shani and Jasleen Kaur. This year’s sectors are celebrated artists Tam Joseph and Keith Piper.
With Joseph & Piper as selectors, the show is likely to showcase diverse, socially engaged art that foregrounds identity, dialogue, and impact. Previous selectors have included artists committed to critical inquiry and cultural visibility; this year is no exception
As leading figures in contemporary Black British art, Joseph and Piper bring decades of critical engagement and visual innovation to the Prize. Their perspectives are rooted in activism, identity, and community, shaped through early participation in movements like the BLK Art Group Wolverhampton and the Institute of International Visual Arts.
Their curatorial pairing suggests that the 2025 Open Prize Show will spotlight artists whose work dialogues with themes of cultural identity, political critique, multimedia complexity, and social justice.
