Corona and Climate Crisis

The Corona pandemic demands our attention. But the other existential issue, climate change, is still important. Our main question is, “What do we learn from the current Corona affliction to avoid the climate crisis?” We use the term crisis instead of change, because change sounds too soft and manageable.

Both crises have in common, as one cause, strong global mobility. Another is our lifestyle and our plundering of resources. The threat is different. With Corona it is acute. The state is reacting strongly, following the advice of science. In contrast, the climate crisis poses a particular threat to future generations. This threat will soon no longer be kept in check by acute measures. The state is reacting insufficiently and not following the science.

What do we learn from this, what do we change? With Corona, the home office functions as a substitute for travel, and closed shops limit our consumption. This has advantages for coping with the climate crisis as these measures also reduce CO2 emissions.

We do not know what good habits will remain post-Corona to counter the climate crisis. The new bike paths on the streets of Berlin are here to stay. That is not enough though, society must not leave it at that.

We see Corona as a global pandemic which, like the climate crisis, is forcing us to far-reaching changes in behaviour. We no longer want to submit to our fate, we want to shape it!

Open Call

In an open call, we invite artists to submit contributions to the above-mentioned topic for a group exhibition in our gallery space.
Disciplines: object, sculpture, installation, photo, painting, drawing, printmaking, video, sound are all possible. A performative contribution such as performance, VJ or similar for the vernissage, artist talk or finissage is welcomed.

Since the Corona crisis still requires restrictions, we will adapt the exhibition organization and the program accordingly. We are therefore planning both an analog and a digital presentation.

GG3 is pleased to invite emerging and established artists to submit artworks to our 51st exhibition “Corona and Climate Crisis” from October to December of this year. This is a very special exhibition for us, where we hope for a great public response from guests, collectors, media and curators. We are looking for a diverse range of artworks in all media and styles. It will be a group exhibition that includes artworks created by contemporary artists and shows what is being produced today on the subject. This exhibition will be held in conjunction with the artists of Group Global 3000 and will be a celebration of art and sustainability. The gallery will promote the selected artists in the exhibition and will host a formal opening reception as well as an artist talk and an expert lecture during the course of the exhibition.

Presence: Presence for local artists is desired for the vernissage and the artist talk as well as supervision on a date of the exhibition.

We provide the exhibition space with equipment, bar, advertising by mail and though various websites and social media as well as web and print flyers, organization of the wall texts, the lecture, the documentation.

We are an independent, self-organized, artist-run space and work on a voluntary basis. Unfortunately, there is no budget for production, further technical equipment, transport, or insurance (the room is lockable). We look forward to good cooperation and consent to our contract  (gg3 rules regeln 2020).
