BcmA are excited to invite performance artists to participate to our performance month in Berlin in May 2024
The dreamscape of a science-fiction reality with flying cars and hologram phone calls once seemed an unattainable future; a contradiction of our body-based life on earth. But as our lives become more entangled with technology, where the body ends and technology begins are perhaps no longer an easily answered question. Digitally and AI has become an extension of our brains and fingertips which impacts the way we communicate and express ourselves – both in our close personal relationships, yet also in a larger, geo-political way. Are our human longing for closeness and contact being compromised or made easier by the means of avatars and AI written love letters? By focusing on body and technology, we can explore the relations between these two entities that once were seen as opposite, but now are enclosing parts of human existence. Referring to digital communication as a different reality not real life no longer withstands. The notion of digital intimacy thus covers to the deep emotional between human that can support without the need for physical presence. Establishing and maintaining close and meaningful relationships are now within the digital proximity.
We encourage all performance artists who engage with bodyless bodies, digital intimacy, AI (artificial intelligence as a subcategory of technology replicating human intelligence), and emancipation through technology to apply to this open call. We are seeking proposals for performances that engage with our concept and reflects on the relevant intersection between body and technological tools.
We are open to a variety of performance styles, including dance, theatre, spoken word, multimedia, and experimental forms. Furthermore, we warmly encourage women artists, artists from BIPOC communities, refugees, or with migrant backgrounds, and from the LGBTQI+ community to submit.
The festival will take place in the BcmA gallery space on 10.-11.5 and 24.-25.5 2024.
Deadline for submissions – 22.4.2024
Once the artists are selected to participate the detailed schedule during these days will be aligned with them. The performances will happen in the BcmA Space at Manteuffelstraße 42, 10997 Berlin.
Please note that you’re able to alter the gallery space but the walls or floors cannot be painted.
