ArtsIceland – RESIDENCIES 2020-21

ArtsIceland in collaboration with other institutions in the area offers artists and other art professionals a space to live and work for 4 to 12 weeks in the Westfjords of Iceland. We offer two residencies with a private room and a private studio for visual artists, writers, designers, filmmakers, musicians and others who may profit from the environment/spaces on offer. Kitchen facilities are shared. During the summer months, we also offer 3 residencies with a private room and shared studio and other facilities in a separate building. Artists pay a moderate fee for their stay at the residency.

Location
Aðalstræti 22, 400 Ísafjörður, Iceland. Ísafjörður is a small town with a rich history. It is the capital of the Westfjords, an area with a population of 7500. The residency is situated in the center of town, with food stores, bistros, bakeries, library, swimming pool and bus stops all within a walking distance. The Westfjords are a mountainous area with many fjords, a few small villages and farms and easily accessible wild nature. To get to Ísafjörður from Reykjavík there are buses 2-6 days a week and the domestic airline has regular flights (1-3 times a day). Car- rental or car-pooling is another possibility (5 - 6 hour drive of 465KM).

Outvert Art Space
Artists in residence staying for 8 weeks or longer can apply for use of the space for exhibitions or other events but as the gallery program is decided long in advance other venues may be more easily accessible on short notice. No extra fee will be charged.

Outvert Art Space is a non-profit organization and a dynamic, contemporary cultural arts space where varied perspectives and issues are explored through visual arts, music, performance and other forms of media. Outvert Art Space collaborates closely with ArtsIceland programs. ArtsIceland and Outvert Art Space are particularly interested in helping artists and curators achieve projects that have a significant cultural impact but would be impossible to realize in a traditional gallery or museum setting.

Duration
Minimum stay: 4 weeks.
Maximum stay: 12 weeks/3 months.
Our week starts on a Monday and finishes on a Sunday.

Residency fee
Private room and studio A - €640,-/month (4 weeks), Private room and studio B - €600,-/month (4 weeks), Private room and studio C (shared workspace) - €520,-/month (4 weeks) (Studio C is available from the 1st of May until the 30th of October)

Additional artists sharing a workspace and accommodation pay half the fee. Additional guests are accepted for a moderate fee.

The residency fee covers accommodation and studio space. All other costs are the responsibility of the artist. It is good to budget with a minimum of 75 – 90 euros per week for food. We are sorry but we do not offer (not yet) scholarships or stipends other than the accommodation and workspace included in the residency fee. We gladly assist artists applying for funding by providing a letter of support.
