What makes the difference between a successful artist and an unseen one?

Everyone has an answer.

But when you look closely, a pattern appears:

The artists who move forward are the ones who act.

We often see similar works by different artists, yet they don’t meet the same response.

Not because of quality alone, but because some step into the world, and others wait.

Visibility is not everything but without it, even the strongest work can remain silent.

And so the question becomes: How do you commit fully to your work, and still put yourself out there?

Carl Jung wrote:

“No matter how isolated you are… unknown allies will come and seek you.”

But in a time like ours is it enough to wait?

Curators and institutions value networks. Artists often value solitude. Between the two lies a tension we all recognise.

This exhibition is not here to resolve it.

It is here to test it.

We are bringing together artists with different approaches placing their work in front of an audience and asking a simple question: What happens when you choose now?

Because at some point, for every artist,it becomes exactly that: Now Or Never.

These timeless questions rarely have a single answer. But they can be illuminated by those who have spent a lifetime listening closely to artists, their doubts, their decisions, and the moments that define them.

Few have done this more extensively than Dr Jean Wainwright. Across decades of research and more than 2,000 interviews with artists, curators, and filmmakers, she has developed a rare and deeply informed perspective on what shapes an artistic career, and what brings work into the world.

The renowned historian and curator will give a talk on the exhibition theme on 15 of May at the opening event.
