Volume 16 Open Call: Publication Opportunity for Emerging Artists

Apply to have your work considered in the art book, Volume 16,by Friend of the Artist. We are dedicated to elevating the work of emerging artists of all mediums around the world through our high quality art books and caliber of exposure.

This volume will be sent out to over 40 galleries and art institutions and available for purchase at Barnes and Noble and Amazon. Accepted artists will also have a written statement about their works by an arts writer and have a 4-page spread of their work.

Volume 16 will be juried by an experienced group of jurors including Storm Ascher, Alexandra Steinacker Clark, Victor Ehikhamenor, Edoardo Monte, and Serge Tiroche

Application Details

Accepted artists will work closely with FOA in the bookmaking process. Each artist will have at least four-pages dedicated to their work, and a short essay written about their work by an arts writer. Volume 16 will release in early 2023.

Artists will also receive a complimentary digital copy of the publication, post on social media, and a discount on books for family and friends.

Eligible Artists

Artists of all academic disciples are welcome to apply. This includes painting, sculpture, photography, installation, and performance art. Works must be submitted in a printable format.

Dues for Selected Artists

Selected artists are responsible for a $85 fee. This fee covers each artists copy of the book ($52 value) and helps with distributing costs for gallery copies. Fee can be paid overtime or upfront.

 

Juror Details:

We are fortunate to have an accomplished group of jurors who bring diverse experiences from the art world.

Storm Ascher is the founder and director of Superpostion Gallery and is a Forbes 30 Under 30 Honoree - Art & Style 2022. Having a BFA in Visual & Critical Studies from the School of Visual Arts and an MA in Art Business from Sotheby’s Institute and Claremont Graduate University, Storm is a painter, sculptor, and documentarian. 

Alexandra Steinacker-Clark is an American-Austrian art historian, curator and writer, and is the host of the ALL ABOUT ART Podcast. She currently holds a position at Skarstedt Gallery after her time as Studio Manager for a London-based artist and 4 years at Sotheby’s Auction House. 

Victor Ehikhamenor is a Nigerian multimedia artist, photographer and writer. He has been prolific in producing abstract, symbolic and politically/historically motivated works and is a 2016 Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Fellow. 

Edoardo Monti is the founder of Palazzo Monti, an artist residency and cultural center located in Brescia, Italy. Monti is also an art collector and curator and has curated over 30 exhibitions at Palazzo Monti, institutions and art galleries. 

Serge Tiroche has broad experience as a collector, gallery owner, Impressionist and Modern Art dealer, curator and art fund manager. His most recent initiative was to found Africa First in 2017, focusing his private collecting and promotional work on contemporary art from Africa and the diaspora. Over the years Serge was involved with multiple public art organizations: The Batsheva Dance Company, The Tel-Aviv Museum, The Serpentine Gallery, the Israel Museum, and the Shenkar College of Art & Design to name a few.
