THE ADACHI CONTEMPORARY UKIYO-E AWARD 2025

The Adachi UKIYOE Award 2025 is now calling for 21st-century ukiyo-e artists. Ukiyo-e prints, loved worldwide, are created through the collaboration of three specialists: the ukiyo-e artist, represented by masters such as Hokusai and Hiroshige, who draws the original design; the carver, who meticulously carves the image onto woodblocks; and the printer, who skillfully transfers the design onto washi paper.
The works produced through this collaborative process have long served as a “mirror of the times,” reflecting the social and cultural contexts of their era and captivating people across generations.

Since its inception in 2009, the Adachi UKIYOE Award has sought artists who will become the next generation of ukiyo-e creators, producing original designs that form the basis of contemporary ukiyo-e. Award recipients will have the opportunity to collaborate with today’s carvers and printers to transform their designs into woodcut prints.
