PADA INTERNATIONAL RESIDENCY JAN-JUL 2027

PADA Studios is an independent, non-profit, artist-run organisation based in Barreiro.

Founded in 2018, PADA offers artists time, space and support to develop their practice in a unique post-industrial environment.

Its residency programmes promote dialogue, experimentation and critical exchange in a collaborative environment.

Located in a former industrial park with roots dating back to 1885, PADA provides artists with direct access to local manufacturers, material resources and the historical context of the area. This environment inspires innovation and practical production, supported by spacious studios, workshops and a dedicated gallery space.

PADA promotes interaction with the community through artistic projects and interventions that engage with the environment, striving to create more sustainable residencies and encourage artistic practices that share this ethos.
The application form asks artists to consider these aspects of their practice and describe how it may affect their project at PADA.

Duration of residency

The provisional residency periods for 2027 are as following:

• + PADA 61: January – February (5th of January – 1st of February)
• + PADA 62: February – March (4th of February – 31st of March)
• + PADA 63: April – May (6th of April – 31st of May)
• + PADA 64: June – July (3rd of June – 28th July)

The accommodation is a 5 minute walk from the studios and is based within the industrial park, in four cottages in the old workers quarter. For the past 100 years these houses have been home to the factory workers.
The village is now historically protected and only people that used to work for CUF (Companhia União Fabril) before 1976 can live here. Therefore the community is mostly made up of retired workers. PADA are the first non CUF residents to move into the village, which is a great privilege for us.
The workers quarters are very quiet and peaceful, and we ask that residents respect and maintain this peace and repay the faith we have been shown.
