The Performance Intensive is a ten-day immersion into embodied practice-a
space to inhabit time differently, to listen through the body, and to explore
performance as a living form of research. Led by artist and scholar Dr. Raegan
Truax, the intensive invites participants to work with the body as material,
archive, and compass-a site of knowledge that connects presence, place, and
imagination.
Set in the mountain landscape of Centro Negra, AADK Spain’s headquarters in
Blanca (Murcia), the programme offers a unique context for slowing down,
shedding routine, and cultivating attention. Each day unfolds through guided
collective sessions and individual explorations. Participants begin with the
essentials of nourishment and sensory awareness, tuning to the rhythms of their
own bodies and the surrounding environment.
As the process evolves, focus shifts toward identity, relation, and duration-how
we move, rest, witness, and are witnessed. Working with movement, stillness,
and time as material, participants learn to build a sustainable creative practice
capable of adapting to diverse spaces and ecologies. Afternoon sessions allow
for reflection, writing, and one-on-one mentoring with Dr. Truax, supporting
both open-ended research and the development of specific performance works.
The Performance Intensive is not about producing a finished piece, but about
rediscovering the body as a generative field of possibility-a way of thinking and
creating through sensation, vulnerability, and endurance. Days are structured
yet fluid; meals, walks, and conversations become part of the artistic process.
The natural surroundings of Blanca — its river, cliffs, and desert-like terrain —
offer a living landscape for exploration.
Dr. Truax’s durational works-spanning from 13-hour to 76-day performances-
have been presented at The New Museum (New York), ZK/U Berlin, and Centre
Pompidou (Paris). Her teaching bridges art, ecology, and the politics of
presence, creating a space where creative risk meets deep embodiment.
The Performance Intensive welcomes artists, researchers, and anyone
seeking to (re)connect with their body as a generative force for creation and
reflection.
Duration:
14 days-two sessions available:
• December 6-18, 2025
• January 3-14, 2026
Accommodation:
Private apartment, private room in shared house or shared room.
Disciplines, Work Equipment and Assistance

The Performance Intensive welcomes practitioners from performance, dance,
movement, sound, and visual arts who work with the body as their primary
material. Participants receive individual mentoring from Dr. Raegan Truax and
curatorial support from AADK Spain. Basic technical equipment and
documentation tools are provided, alongside guidance to develop each artist’s
creative process within a supportive and experimental environment.
Studio / Workspace
Participants work at Centro Negra, a unique space that combines studios,
open-air terraces, and natural surroundings. The landscape of Blanca —
mountains, river, and semi-desert terrain — becomes an extension of the studio,
inviting artists to create in dialogue with place and time.

euros for a room in a shared house with shared kitchen and bathroom. 800
euros for a shared room in a shared house.
