No Space Exhibition

No Space is a pop up exhibition for the SpaceCADets programme, in association with CADS Studios. We are looking for artists who explore themes of negative and liminal space.

No Space is an open call, visual art project working within the theme of Negative Space.  

The exhibition space is not a traditional white cube environment, but an old steelworks office in an industrial area in Sheffield, which has been converted into art studios and workspaces.

We are looking for artists who explore themes of liminal and/or negative space through their art practice; negative space refers to the feeling of emptiness or absence that contributes to an unsettling or eerie atmosphere.

It highlights the feeling of loneliness and the unfamiliar. Liminal spaces, by their nature, are in-between or transitional zones, often characterised by a lack of clear purpose or defined activity.

Liminality can exist in time, people and places. It may refer to nostalgia, transitional or psychological states, critical turning points in life, or sudden events that significantly impact a person’s life.

Our project invites each artist to interpret the concept of negative space using an array of materials and a variety of artworks, from paintings to video installations

Suggested concepts include:

• The strain between presence and absence
• The use of emptiness as an expressive tool
• The subconscious, memory and inner dialogue
• Individuals undergoing personal transformations

Who can apply:

Any UK/Sheffield or South Yorkshire based artists. We are looking for a good variety of mediums.

When & Where:

24 January private view 6-9 pm. 
Exhibition 24-28 January. Working hours 1-8 pm

Sheffield, Eagle Works, CADs, S3 8RY, UK

Each artist will need to install their own work by 24th January and it will need to be dismantled by the 30th January.  
Due to the nature of this project being a short-notice, pop-up exhibition, organised by two artists, we are unfortunately unable to offer any financial help towards any costs you may incur.
