5 x free spaces in Bristol for artists/curators/gallerists - from 6 weeks up to 1 year

We are looking for a variety of artists, creative makers & curators to take over 5 spaces in this shopping centre. We can offer short-term Project Spaces or longer-term studio, exhibition or public-facing uses.

The space is provided for free* in return for the commitment to use the space fully & organising some public-facing events as part of your occupation. We are committed to supporting creative practitioners who are most in need of space, prioritising support for those who are struggling due to the pandemic or best consider the local community in their applications.

The images of spaces shown here are possible sites for your creative occupation. As part of our judging Hypha Studios matches creatives to the spaces we feel will best support their proposal in terms of space & visibility, as well as the shopping centre & local community

If you feel that one of the spaces is particularly suited to your proposal, then please mention this in the application form so we can consider it in the judging process.

We have 3 types of opportunity to best suit your creative needs, so please consider which would work for you best, & feel free to apply to more than one option.

1: Project Spaces for 45 days
2: Creative commercial, for 6-12 months
3: Struggling Creatives, for 6-12 months

OPTION 1  PROJECT SPACES FOR 45 DAYS
You can use the space as a short-term studio, allowing the public to observe your artistic process in any medium. Or you may be putting on a performance, developing an exhibition or creating a new site-responsive project.

It should have at least one public-facing element, which could include a workshop, talk, participatory element, or anything else you feel supports your practice & the local community, It is really important that you use the space for the duration of the 45 day period, treating the space as your primary work space to develop your practice We are particularly interested in creatives who are local, cannot normally access making space, or consider the immediate context & community in their application

OPTION 2 CREATIVE COMMERCIAL 6 - 12 MONTHS 

For this offer we are looking for creatives or curators who create work to sell or organise public-facing selling exhibitions. This could include paintings, photography & traditional artwork, or you may create written publications, fashion or anything else from the creative sector which you want to sell.

We ask you to particularly consider the local context & community of the area when thinking about the works you sell & the prices you are selling them for. We are particularly interested in creatives who are local, cannot normally access making space, or would see this opportunity to test the commercial viability of their creative practice to help them reach the next stage of their career.

OPTION 3 STRUGGLING CREATIVES 6 - 12 MONTHS
You will have the space for a minimum of six months, with the potential to extend for longer. We are committed to supporting creatives & communities most in need & will prioritise creatives who declare they are struggling - whether financially, mentally or physically.

Priority will also be given to local creatives who live within one hour journey time of the space & those who would otherwise struggle to access space to develop their practice. It is very important that you use the space for the duration of your occupation, treating the space as your primary work space to develop your practice
