Join IJAD Dance Company and its team for a performing arts and technology residency where you’ll gain hands-on experience of creative technologies such as multi-camera live streaming, performance VR and AR.

Artist Residency

The OOT Residency offers performing artists hands-on experience of creative technologies such as multi-camera live streaming, performance VR, AR and Motion Capture. Specialists will workshop and mentor you in methodologies to integrate new technologies into your own practice.

It’s an exciting opportunity to gather, explore and evolve projects, ideas and challenges in a peer-to-peer setting with the potential of a professional performance opportunity at Rich Mix, London Nov 2022.

Who can apply?

We accept applications from professionals within dance, theatre, live art, comedy, circus and combined practices.

Artists of all backgrounds and ages are welcome; the project is what we look for, and the flexibility of adapting new approaches in your practice 

Residency period:  Oct 2022 to 20 Nov 2022

Festival: 25-26 Nov 2022

Throughout the residency artists have the opportunity to earn money from offering workshops and co-creation sessions on the OOT interactive platform. You set the ticket price and get the income minus a percentage for admin. We require participating artists to pay £200 towards the course expenses.

OOTFest22 festival of hybrid performing arts is a paid opportunity, offering a bursary of £500 plus a percentage of ticket income for your performance.

OOT Residency

Resident artists will join our team at Goldsmiths University and Rich Mix, London to gain new skills via:

• 3 days workshopping with technical equipment with workshop leaders present. 
• Up to 10 hours mentorship (live and virtual) in Sensography, filming, and live editing
• An introduction to VR, AR and motion capture for hybrid performance
• Use of an up to 6 camera live streaming set-up, with technicians available 
•  Up to 2 days/month studio time at Rich Mix with mentors while rehearsing, testing and investigating 
•  Offering monetised workshops and co-creation sessions on the interactive OOT platform

What you will gain from the residency

Our expert mentors in  cinematography, live editing, Sensography and Augmented/Virtual Reality will be on hand to discuss your objectives, and:

Guide you through creative practices in cinematography and multi-camera live streaming

Show you how to live edit your work as it goes out to virtual audiences

introduce ways to incorporate VR, AR and motion capture into performance 

Teach you how to use Sensography – the art/science of creating work for the digital space. Pioneered by mentor Joumana Mourad, creative director of IJAD Dance, Sensography offers the ability to acknowledge, comprehend and respond to the virtual, the physical, and the spaces in between.

From Sep through Nov 2022, resident artists will receive individual mentorship, plus practical sessions with a team of technicians, while developing a short piece which has the potential to be selected for inclusion in the hybrid OOTFest22, which is a paid opportunity.
