LPCA Open Juried Show

The LPCA is proud to showcase the art of the region and beyond in the Annual Open Juried Art Exhibition. This LPCA tradition will feature a variety of paintings, drawings, sculpture, assemblage and photographs. Artists are welcome to submit work in any style, genre, or subject matter – we’re looking to highlight the best that an artist has to offer and celebrate the talent that lies in and around New York’s North Country.

Wednesday, September 11 through Saturday, September 14, 2019
Drop off work at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts (17 Algonquin Dr) between 1 pm and 5 pm.

Sunday, September 15, 2019
Jurying occurs.

Monday, September 16, 2019
Award finalists will be notified.

Tuesday, September 17, 2019
Accepted work will be posted to the Lake Placid Center for the Arts’ Website.

Thursday, September 19, 2019
Opening reception from 5 pm to 7 pm.
All participating artists are encouraged to attend.  Prizes will be awarded at 5:45 pm.

Pick-up of non-exhibited work. Artists should make arrangements to pick up work between 1 pm and 5 pm. Unclaimed works remaining past the pickup dates are subject to a $1 per piece per day storage fee.

Eligibility & Restrictions

Eligibility:

Open to all artists/mediums including photography, sculpture, painting, drawing, fiber, ceramics, woodcrafts, jewelry, prints and constructions.

Work submitted should not have been previously exhibited in any capacity at the Gallery @ LPCA.  Work previously shown at the LPCA’s Gallery 46 is eligible.

Work submitted should have been produced within the last three years.

Eligible work can be in any media executed by artists 16 years or older.

Submitted work must be available for exhibition during the entire duration of the exhibit.  Artists removing work prior to the close of the exhibition will be subject to a $50 penalty due when the artwork is removed.

Work does not have to be for sale to be eligible, but each piece of art must have a price or value noted on the entry form.

There is a $25 entry fee for up to two works.  Each artist may submit up to four works per show.

Presentation:

No digital submissions will be allowed.

Work on paper must be framed and wired for hanging.  Sawtooth or clip hangers are not allowed.  No screws may be used to hang art work.

Wall pieces must be limited to 50 pounds per piece.

Works on paper should be covered with glass or Plexiglass unless UV protection has been used during the creation of the work.  The Lake Placid Center for the Arts will not be responsible for damage to glass or artwork from improperly framed work.

The Lake Placid Center for the Arts reserves to the right at all times to exclude any work that presents complex exhibition problems.  If the work is deemed too complex to adequately present, a refund of the entry price will be issued.

Insurance:

The Lake Placid Center for the Arts will provide insurance coverage for exhibited works, but does not assume responsibility for loss or damage to work while on-site for jurying.

While every precaution is made to safeguard entries, work is submitted at the artist’s risk.

Sales:

Prices submitted must be consistent with work sold elsewhere and must not be changed on a piece that has been submitted.

Prices submitted must match any other pricing of the same work on the artist’s website or similar listings.

The gallery commission is 35% of the selling price

Shipping:

Works may be shipped for submission by UPS with prior arrangement.

Return shipping arrangements must be discussed with staff prior before shipped artwork can be received

Entry Labels:

Attach labels to the back or underside of work prior to submission.

Selections & Awards Jurors

Holly Friesen – LPCA Open Juried Show

Holly Friesen was born in Saskatchewan, studied Visual Arts at John Abbott College in Montreal and painting at York University in Toronto. Her paintings are collected internationally and part of both corporate and private collections. Holly’s passion is painting vibrant landscapes from the inside out while collaborating with other artists to make art more visible in our everyday world.

Holly has served as the Artistic Director and Curator for Center d’Art E.K. Voland, the Montreal Curator for ArtBomb, and was founder and director of Art Barn Mont-Tremblant and Artbeat Studio. She has studied at York University, John Abbott College, and the Vermont Studio Center. She is a signature member of Artists for Conservation.

Tim Saternow – LPCA Open Juried Show

Tim Saternow is an American painter whose watercolor paintings explore the lost and forgotten areas on the edges of the urban scene. His work encompasses the old High Line train trestles above the gritty industrial streets of New York City, the empty homesteads of Joshua Tree, California, and the dignified and genial old houses of Provincetown, MA.

Tim Saternow, AWS, is a Signature Member of the American Watercolor Society, Elected Member of the Allied Artists of America, and a Signature Artist of the Hudson Valley Art Association. His work has been exhibited throughout the US and Internationally, including the American Watercolor Society Traveling Exhibitions, 2016 & 2017; The Brattleboro Museum, Vermont; The William Benton Museum of Art, Storrs, Connecticut; the Prague Quadrennial, The Czech Republic; and the Lake Placid Center for the Arts, NY.

Saternow received his MFA from the Yale Drama School, Yale University, and his BFA from SUNY Purchase, NY.   He is a recipient of Lahey Memorial Scholarship from the Art Students League, New York, NY, studying with Paul Ching-Bor.   He is also a Board Member of The American Watercolor Society and is currently represented by the KOBALT Gallery, Provincetown, Mass
