Shadows and Light .

Black is symbolic in many cultures, expressing mystery, elegance, drama, even the great void. Whites and grays, conversely, are hopeful, bringing contrast and defining forms.

The absence of color allows us to better see the pictorial composition, and the arrangements and intensity of shadows and light can create a high contrast image or a dusky play of subtle grays. The lack of color concentrates our attention on the subject and the design.

Please submit your interpretation of this achromatic theme in any media such as photography, printmaking, pencil and charcoal, fiber, ceramic or mixed media.

Featured in the show is the art of local photographer Richard Hay Jr. with the debut of his series

“Healdsburg by Design – Fragments of time “. The black and white images portray in exquisite detail the historic and contemporary structures that embody this 100+ years old town.

APPLICATION: All applications must be made through EntryThingy.
~All work must be original work and for sale.
~Photos included in the application must be actual photos of the work the artist hopes to exhibit.
~Pieces entered must not have been previously displayed at HCA.
~Art submitted cannot exceed 44'W or 60'H
~3-dimensional work must be stable and not weigh over 40lbs.
~Artists will be informed via email about the Juror's selection no later than April 2.
~Selection by the Jurors will be final.
~Entry fees: $40 for up to 3 entries for non-members; $30 for members.
~Yearly membership in HCA is $60 for artists.
~Entry deadline is March 30, 2023, at 11:30 pm.
~Artists will be notified by April 2, 2023, if they are accepted.
