StartaArta is seeking artwork for inclusion in “May I …” art show.

To celebrate the arrival of spring and mark the long anticipated art awakening, we are casting an artist Open Call for a new show of contemporary art in New York City. The show’s title "MAY I...?" will be an art exhibition to highlight artistic creative intention. The show shall honor contemporary artists displaying the meaning and mood of the times.

Through this show we hope to praise the power of the individual and the collective human spirit, and our capacity to endure. We hope to see how the community of artists have reacted to challenges and remained resilient under pressure. What better time to capture the moral, intellectual and cultural climate of the times than during our slow emergence from this crisis.

With the prompt proposed in the show's title, we invite artists to engage in the creative challenge by adding a verb, or phrase which best completes the question “MAY I __?” based on your emotions, feelings and insight developed during the past year. Complete the phrase that reflects your understanding of the new reality, or where you stand right now, or that has developed from your recent history, or the future we face. To reinforce your feelings, based on your word or phrase, we ask that you introduce the art works you are submitting for the show in May.

Your proposed artwork should reflect upon those feelings. We welcome contemporary art of all mediums and expressions which synchronize with this vision and statement.

When submitting the artwork please add your own verb or phrase to 'May I..?." to complete the sentence.

The exhibition will be held at StartaArta exhibition space in 220 23rd Street, Manhattan, NY from May 6th – May 14th, 2021. An opening reception will be held on Thursday May 6th, 2021 from 6pm to 8pm.

The “May I …” exhibition is for all artists working in all traditional and non‐traditional 2D and 3D media. All artwork must be original in concept, design and execution. Limited edition prints/photographs are accepted.

Artists may submit up to five works. Artwork must be installation-ready and appropriately framed. All works must be for sale. StartaArta will not withhold any commission for the sale of the art work. All sales will be handled by the artists. The application fee is $ 35. The fee covers the show’s operating expenses. Selected artists will be responsible for delivery and pick-up. Artists will receive two emails: a confirmation email upon receipt of submission, and if selected for the show. The deadline for submission is 8pm, April 18, 2021.
