Epoch of Change: Footprints of Humanity

Epoch of Change: Footprints of Humanity invites artists to explore the interconnected relationship between humanity and nature and respond to our shifting earth and climate.  

The Anthropocene Epoch is an unofficial unit of geologic time, used to describe the most recent period in Earth’s history when human activity started to have a significant impact on the planet’s climate and ecosystems enough to constitute a distinct geological change.  Possible markers of the Anthropocene include microplastics, heavy metals, or radioactive nuclei left by tests from thermonuclear weapons. Epoch of Change: Footprints of Humanity calls on artists to pose ethical, political, and spiritual questions about the implications of the Anthropocene and the future of our planet.

• Dr. Lydia Wassink, Biologist and Professor, will be the juror for Epoch of Change: Footprints of Humanity
• Submissions are welcome in all media including painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, mixed media, digital arts, sculpture and video. 
• AI generated art is not allowed.  
• All artworks must be submitted ONLINE for jurying.  Awards will be chosen by the juror in person when all works are installed at Art Center Sarasota. 

IMPORTANT DATES 

• Exhibition Dates: Thursday, March 13 - Saturday, April 19, 2025
• Online Submissions: Tuesday, Jan. 7 - Sunday, Feb. 16, 2025
• Notification of Acceptance: Artists will be notified by email of their submission status no later than Friday, February 21 by 5pm.
• In Person Receiving Days for Accepted Work:  Tuesday, March 4 - Wednesday, March 5, 10am-5pm.
• Shipping Accepted Work: Mailed Artwork must arrive between Monday, March 3 - Wednesday, March 5.  Any work that is delivered after this date will not be included in the exhibition.
• Award Winners Notified: no later than Wednesday, March 12 at 5pm.  
• Opening Reception: Thursday, March 13, 5-7pm.
• Artwork Pickup In Person: Monday, April 21 & Tuesday, April 22, 2025, 10am-5pm
