Still Life

Still Life invites artists to present their formal and conceptual notions of the modern day still life. Artists who make still lifes create suggestive worlds, placing clues about their lives and their often invented, absent characters into their compositions.

 A still life is a work of art that usually depicts inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects, organic or synthetic.  With origins in the Middle Ages and Ancient Greco-Roman art, still-life painting emerged as a distinct genre and professional specialization in Western painting by the late 16th century. During the 20th and 21st centuries, the notion of the still life has been extended beyond the traditional two dimensional art forms of painting into three dimensional art forms such as sculpture, performance and installation and video art.

Mara Torres, owner and curator of MARA Art Studio + Gallery in Sarasota, will be the juror for Still Life.

Submissions are welcome in all media including painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, mixed media, digital arts, sculpture and video. 

AI generated art is not allowed.

All artworks must be submitted ONLINE for jurying.  Awards will be chosen by the juror in person when all works are installed at Art Center Sarasota.
