Open Call | “The Last Call” NY Exhibition at A Space Gallery

Inspired by Édouard Manet’s A Bar at the Folies-Bergère, The Last Call invites artists to reflect on the intersection of the mundane and the extraordinary, where vibrant realities meet quiet mysteries. Just as Manet’s barmaid gazes out with an enigmatic stillness amidst a bustling scene of leisure and consumption, this exhibition seeks to explore the duality of modern life—its fleeting connections, veiled tensions, and moments of introspective pause hidden within vivid exteriors.

“The Last Call” evokes multiple interpretations: the final drink before closing, a decisive moment of action, or the turning point before transition… This exhibition will explore the layered nature of modern life—moments where surfaces slip, where small details reveal stories untold, and where what seems ordinary is anything but.

It is transience silence within a crowded room. We invite artists to capture this subtle undercurrent through colorful, subtle, or ambiguous lenses—those elusive scenes that might be passed by at first glance but linger in the mind, unresolved and strange. Whether through painting, photography, installation, video, or mixed media, artists are encouraged to create works that hold a quiet charge: vibrant yet detached, still yet suggestive, real yet slightly askew.

Eligibility: Open to all Visual Artists in all media

Accepted Artwork: Painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography, digital art, mixed media, site-specific installations, illustration, performance, etc.
