Re-Source | A Juried Art Exhibition Celebrating Creative Reuse + Ecological Mindfulness

The HeArt Box and Azulita Project invite artists working in all mediums to submit work to Re-Source, a juried exhibition opening in April 2026 in downtown Flagstaff at The HeArt Box Gallery. This show celebrates creative reuse, ecological mindfulness, and our shared responsibility to protect Earth’s vital resources.

Re-Source asks artists to consider where their materials come from, what happens to them when the work is complete, and how artistic practice can evolve toward greater sustainability. We seek high-quality, professional artworks created from recycled, repurposed, low-impact, biodegradable, or locally sourced materials. Limited plastic usage is acceptable only when materials are reused, repurposed, or integral to the concept. We encourage artists to experiment, innovate, and push the boundaries of sustainable creative practice.

• Explore and Experiment: Challenge yourself to think deeply about where your materials come from and enjoy the creative challenge of experimenting with eco-friendly options.

• Engage with Your Community: The HeArt Box has a vibrant Northern Arizona Community, giving your work meaningful local visibility.

• Support a Cause: Re-Source is a fundraiser for Azulita Project. By participating, your art directly helps support this nonprofit’s mission to prevent and reduce plastic waste.

Submission Fee: $15 (This fee directly supports the costs of hosting this exhibition. About Azulita Project - Azulita Project is a nonprofit organization with the mission to empower community action to prevent and reduce plastic waste. Azulita pursues action-based solutions to the plastic problem in both inland and coastal communities. We primarily work in Flagstaff, Arizona, and in communities along Mexico’s Pacific coastline. MEDIUMS ACCEPTED

Painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, collage, mixed media, sculpture, fiber arts, ceramics. Jewelry is an acceptable submission, think of it like a statement piece and must be able to be wall mounted (for example a shadow box can work well)

Maximum Size for submissions: 24” x 24”

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

• Each artist may submit up to 3 original artworks

• Materials list (detailed, including repurposed items)

• Artist Materials Statement - 150 words on your approach to sustainability, impact considerations, sourcing, and creative reus

MATERIAL GUIDELINES

Re-Source centers on ecological mindfulness and material consciousness. All submitted artwork must meet the following guidelines.

• Limited to no plastic materials, including acrylic paints and petroleum-based inks

• Repurposed and reused materials (limited plastic usage is acceptable only when materials are reused, repurposed, or integral to the concept.)

• Emphasize locally sourced and organic, biodegradable materials 

• Materials list included with all art pieces 

We welcome artworks that creatively respond to these constraints with insight, beauty, and intention.

TIMELINE

• Call Opens: December 8, 2025

• Submissions Due: March 1st, 2026

• Jury Review: March 4th - 8th

• Notifications Sent: Week of March 16

• Artwork Drop-Off: April 16, 4-6pm & April 19, 12-3pm 

• Opening Reception: April 24

• Exhibition Dates: April 24 - May 31

• Artwork Pick-Up: May 31, 3-5pm & June 3, 3-6pm

OTHER DETAILS

• All artwork can be available to purchase, The HeArt Box takes 40% commission on all sales.

• Artists are responsible for shipping or dropping off artwork to 17 N. San Francisco Street, Suite 1B, Flagstaff AZ 86001 on drop off dates. Shipping to and from the gallery is artist’s responsibility.
