Re-envisioning Resilience: Reflections on the LA Wildfires

The Barnsdall Junior Arts Center Gallery invites local artists to participate in our upcoming exhibition, Re-envisioning Resilience; Reflections on the LA Wildfires. 

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

As a community, we continue to grieve the devastation caused by the recent wildfires and stand with those who have lost homes, businesses, and loved ones. We acknowledge that the lives, livelihoods, and lands affected by this tragedy will never be the same.

The solidarity displayed by Angelenos during this time has been unprecedented. Communities, businesses, and individuals have come together to offer comfort, solace, guidance, resources, and countless forms of support. The Barnsdall Junior Art Center Gallery stands with the city’s rehabilitation efforts, offering an opportunity for artworks to be created as a means of processing the recent events while also envisioning a hopeful future.

How can art help us process or express collective grief? In what ways can art serve as a blueprint for imagining a resilient future? We are currently accepting submissions for 2D, 3D, installation and video works based on reflections, responses, and envisioning the future transformation of our communities and habitats in Los Angeles.

TIMELINE

Submission dates: February 10–March 21, 2025

Announcements for accepted submissions: March 26–28, 2025

Artwork Drop-offs: March 31–April 11, 2025

Exhibition Dates: June 7–August 2, 2025

Opening reception: June 7, 2025

The Barnsdall Junior Arts Center Gallery fosters a vibrant creative community by welcoming all to experience the arts, creativity, and culture. Established in 1967, it was the first gallery in Los Angeles dedicated to hosting artworks by children. Today, the BJAC Gallery generates innovative arts exhibitions that have expanded to include adults from the BAC program as well as artists within the surrounding community and greater Los Angeles.

The gallery is open Thursdays to Saturdays, from 11:00 a.m.  to 4:30 p.m.
