K-State Student Union Call for Original Art

K-State Student Union former Executive Director Bernard J. Pitts championed equity and inclusion during his more-than 40 year career in higher education. Upon his death, he left a monetary gift to the Union to be used to commission an original piece of art to be hung in the facility.

• The submission should include artist statement, submissions, link to social media accounts, and CV.
• No more than 5 pieces per artist can be submitted for consideration. png or jpeg - no larger than 25MB
• No sculptures, but any medium will work (photographs, mixed media, watercolor, acrylic, etc)
• The piece should be original, gallery ready artwork no larger than 36”x 36” (framed if necessary)
• Prefer the artist be a person of color, but not required.
• Prefer Kansas or Kansas State University connection, but not required.
• The artist must have a dedication to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
• Deadline to submit would be January 15, 2026. Wants to unveil the piece in April 2026 
• Total budget is $2500 (which would include shipping to the Union)
