Minerva: Harmony to Hollywood

Minerva is the Roman goddess of wisdom, medicine, commerce, handicrafts, poetry, the arts, and later, war. She is seen as the Roman equivalent of Athena and oversaw all things that required forethought and calculation. She is often seen in a helmet, holding a shield, and would carry a spear.

Named after the goddess, The Minerva Society in New Harmony was a literary club for the women of New Harmony, founded by Constance Owen Fauntleroy in 1859. It is considered one of the earliest women's clubs in America. The club members called it The Minerva Society because they “wished to become wise.”

For this exhibition, we are seeking artworks with the embodiment of the Goddess Minerva through the modern lens. Artists should focus their works on strong female influences spanning from local New Harmony to the limelight of Hollywood. All 2-D and 3-D visual media are acceptable to enter.

Rules and Regulations:

•  No entry fee required
• Juried Exhibition
• 3 entries per person
• Submissions due May 15th, 2020
• Examples of 2-D and 3-D media accepted include but is not limited to: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, ceramics, and woodworking
• Notified of acceptance by June 6th, 2020
• All accepted work must be at the gallery no later than June 30th, 2020
• Artists are responsible for outgoing and return shipping as well as insurance during shipping.
• Gallery retains 35% commission on all work sold
• Exhibition dates: July 4th – August 15th  
• Both a physical and virtual exhibition will take place
• 2-D work should be framed and wired, ready to hang 
• 3-D work should be ready to display
