Competition for the creation of contemporary statues of saints for a Baroque church

Bezděkov nad Metují announces an open two-round competition for the creation of statues of St. Procopius and St. Gunther for the niches above the entrance to the Baroque Church of St. Procopius, designed by Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer, in celebration of the 300th anniversary of the building's completion. The structure is part of the so-called Broumov Group of Churches, built in the first half of the 18th century on land belonging to the Břevnov-Broumov Monastery. The Church of St. Procopius, listed as a national cultural monument, was constructed between 1724 and 1727 and consecrated in 1729. The celebration of 300 years since the completion of this landmark, which features in the municipality's coat of arms, has inspired local officials to launch a competition to fill the façade niches with contemporary sculptures.

The deadline for submitting applications and materials for the first round is April 18, 2025. Conceptual proposals must be submitted in the Czech language. In the second round, a professional jury will select 3 to 5 participants, who will be invited to create models and elaborate on their designs in detail. The installation of the statues is planned for September 2027, with the possibility of an extension until August 2029.
