Kinesthesia

This is an open call for visual artists to submit their artworks for consideration to the curatorial team of an international curated exhibition which will take place in Greece. The official languages of the exhibition are Greek and English, and a commemorative catalog - book will be published in digital form in both languages. The exhibition will also be available internationally online via the ARTgrID platform for one month.

Theme and Type of Artworks. The exhibition accepts submissions of painting, sculpture, printmaking (etchings and engravings), art photography, collage, textile/fiber art, and digital art. The artworks can engage with the theme in any way the artist deems appropriate.

Eligibility. Artists from all over the world can apply, but bear in mind that if selected and your artworks are not photographs or digital art which we will produce locally for you, you will have to send your artworks to Greece for the exhibition. The artists applying must be at least 18 years old for us to show their artworks publicly according to Greek law.

Conceptual Framework. The development of kinesthetic awareness through writing and art enhances the ability to perceive and understand the environment and social symbols. The theory of embodied cognition suggests that our cognitive processes play a central role in shaping thought and understanding. Writing and painting, which require fine and precise movements, strengthen this connection between body and mind. Kinesthetic feedback cultivated through the practice of writing and painting improves the perception of space, shapes, and proportions. This improvement is not merely technical but also has significant cognitive and social consequences. Those who develop strong kinesthetic skills gain access to a deeper understanding of the meanings and intentions of others, leading to a more cohesive society. Theorists like George Lakoff and Mark Johnson ("Metaphors We Live By") have highlighted how the metaphors we use in our language often stem from bodily experiences, supporting the idea that our thinking and language are directly connected to our physical interactions with the world. In the same way, art becomes a powerful tool through which our bodily experiences can be translated into deeper understanding and connection with our cultural and social environment.
