Open Call for Visual Artists to submit their artworks for participation in an international curated exhibition to be held in Athens, Greece, accessible both physically in Athens and online worldwide.

Art Curator Paris Kapralos is presenting in  Chili Art Gallery Athens the third exhibition of the series “INFIITE FORMS”. The official languages of the exhibition are Greek and English, and a commemorative catalog – book will be published in digital form in both languages.

Accepted Works. The exhibition – which is open-themed – accepts submissions of painting, sculpture, mixed media, photography, digital art, collage, textile/fiber art, mosaics, augmented reality works, video art, constructions, and installations. Photos and digital artworks from international artists can be printed, framed and handled locally for the exhibition organizers.

Conceptual Framework. The practice of artistic reuse of materials, known as upcycling, constitutes an aesthetic and ideological field that unites folk creativity with contemporary conceptual art. Objects that have lost their functionality are incorporated into new morphological contexts, undergoing a transformation that is not only material but also conceptual. From traditional American Amish quilts to the iconic works of Simon Rodia and the Dadaist interventions of Marcel Duchamp, upcycling becomes a critical approach toward mass production and commodification of objects.

The emergence of the political subject within the act of assemblage becomes evident in the works of Romuald Hazoumé, where African memory intersects with the remnants of Western consumer culture. Jeff Wassmann, through the creation of a fictional artistic genealogical narrative, and Max Zorn, using humble materials in urban environments, broaden the manifestations of this practice.

Upcycling, as creative recycling with high symbolic weight, repositions the discarded at the heart of the artistic act and critically reflects on materiality, memory, and value within the post-industrial condition.

Beyond the material and tangible practice, art has always functioned as a conceptual mechanism for the feedback loop of human civilization, processing fundamental issues that return in various forms: matter and decay, memory and oblivion, the need for meaning. The contemporary confrontation with the old – that which was once familiar but is now forgotten and often perceived as uncanny – brings back, in new contexts, archetypal questions about creation, value, and humanity’s place in the world.

About the “Infinite Forms” exhibition series. “Infinite Forms” is a series of international exhibitions conceived by art curator Paris Kapralos exploring the material and conceptual recycling of human civilization through art. The series began in 2023 and will feature one exhibition annually, aiming to promote artists who produce works of creative reuse and/or who explore through their work the re-conceptualization or re-signification of cultural elements and images to the wider public.
