About:

The ING Discerning Eye Exhibition is an annual show of small-scale works renowned for championing emerging artists and displaying a unique curatorial approach. A panel of six prominent art world figures - two artists, two collectors and two critics - select works of art for the exhibition.

Proudly supported by ING for 25 years, the ING Discerning Eye Exhibition is one of the longest-running commercial art sponsorships in the UK. Since it began in 1999, 11,000 works by 4,000 artists have been exhibited, £290,000 has been awarded in prize money, and over £1 million worth of art has been sold on behalf of the artists.

The ING Discerning Eye Exhibition is famous for its unique selection process. Some of the artwork comes from artists who are personally invited by a selector, and the remainder is selected through an open submission process, allowing emerging artists to exhibit alongside more established names. Each selector makes their choices independently, giving them the opportunity to champion talented artists, and resulting in the curation of six small exhibitions within the whole.

Works chosen by the selectors will be shown in the annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London from 16 to 26 November 2023. A virtual exhibition of shortlisted works will open alongside it and close on 31 December 2023.

Online submissions will be open via a dedicated portal: https://new.artopps.co.uk/opportunities/DiscerningEye until 31 August 2023.

“The ING Discerning Eye has a long-standing history and brings together an array of interesting voices to continue broadening conversation around visual arts” says Péjú Oshin, British-Nigerian curator, writer, and lecturer and ING Discerning Eye 2023 selector. “I would like to encourage artists at all stages of their careers to apply and to create work from a space that is true to their journey.”

Artists are encouraged to enter online until 31 August 2023, 5pm: https://new.artopps.co.uk/opportunities/DiscerningEye
