Call out: Both Sides Now with Fatima Al Qadiri

We’re looking for emerging female musicians, producers, visual artists and performance artists to take part in this exciting cross-artform residency led by composer, producer and conceptual artist Fatima Al Qadiri, developed in collaboration with curator and researcher Amal Khalaf.

Based at the People’s History Museum in Manchester across four days (9-12 July), you’ll collaborate to create new work inspired by the current exhibition Represent! Voices 100 Years Onwhich reflects on those who campaigned for better representation (most famously the suffragettes) and asks ‘How far have we really come in 100 years?’

The residency will culminate in a live showcase performance as part of ‘Radical Lates’ at the museum on Thursday 12 July.

This opportunity is aimed at musicians, producers or artists at the beginning of their career who are looking to develop their creative practice – and would benefit from working alongside experienced and established artists.

“The works of the greatest artists in contemporary times are effectively large-scale collaborative works. Glance at the credits of any major album, solo exhibition or film and you’ll see that timelessness is seldom a solo pursuit. The objective of this residency is to work together with artists to leave the self behind and be open to the possibilities that occur when working collaboratively.” – Fatima Al Qadiri

  • 18+
  • Female, or identify as female (we use an inclusive definition of ‘women’ and ‘female’, welcoming participants who may identify as non-binary, cis-gendered, or trans)
  • Based in Greater Manchester and surrounding area
  • Available between 9-12 July

Deadline: Monday 25 June, midnight
