Gallery Renaissance Presents:Symbols of Creation 1/2

Symbols of Creation is an innovative initiative by Gallery Renaissance that challenges young artists to explore and reinterpret the representations of the forces of procreation.  Such images became taboo when Christianity and Islam became dominant but the underlying ideas, far from being eliminated, merely metamorphosed in unaccountable ways.  Our objective is to revisit these questions and to obtain a fresh perspective through the eyes of young artists.

Our first project will explore the ubiquitous phallic symbol embodied by the purple aubergine circulating on the Internet.  The second project will cover the female counterpart.  Other projects will deal with the consequences of historical attempts to regulate artistic renderings of these fundamental human impulses.  Artists are invited to probe into the taboos that delineate these cryptic domains

Insights provided by artists will help shape audio and video accompaniments for upcoming exhibitions, offering a dynamic narrative on the symbol’s multifaceted meanings.

There are many taboos associated with the representations of both the male and female facets of procreation and so, if you wish to participate in this series, you should be prepared to confront and reinterpret some difficult issues artistically.

We are open to any reasonable artistic medium and genre of art.  You can work in any language in which you are comfortable.

It will not cost you anything to participate and we will pay any reasonable expenses you might incur.

Our only requirement is that you produce impactful works of art backed up by a strong philosophy
