DEFINING FORM 2018 / A GROUP SHOW OF SCULPTURE

A group exhibition of contemporary artists exploring 2 and 3-dimensional sculpture curated by Indira Cesarine to take place at The Untitled Space gallery in New York City July 2018 as well as online on Artsy. The exhibit is open to submissions until June 3, 2018.  

“DEFINING FORM 2018” will take a comprehensive look at the manifestations of contemporary sculpture. The group show will engage a dialogue of the themes and narratives resonating amongst sculptors today through works in mediums such as metal, stone, clay, wood, glass, recycled materials as well as mixed media. Themes will include contemporary feminism, new waves in sculpture & technology as well as works displaying a strongly defined narrative of contemporary culture with an emphasis on originality and innovative usage of materials. The exhibition is open to artists of all genders. Works can be figurative or abstract, and must be created within the last 5 years. Artists may submit up to 5 works of art for consideration. 

Small to medium size sculptures will be prioritized (under 40”) with maximum size of sculptures allowed 96” inches height. Any works requiring special installation must be installed by the artist. All transportation of works is responsibility of artist.

ABOUT THE UNTITLED SPACE
The Untitled Space is an art gallery located in Tribeca, New York in a landmark building on Lispenard Street. Founded in 2014 by Indira Cesarine, the gallery features an ongoing curation of exhibits of emerging and established contemporary artists exploring conceptual framework and boundary pushing ideology through mediums of painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, video and performance art. The gallery is committing to exploring new ideas vis-à-vis traditional and new mediums and highlights a program of women in art as well as special events aligned with our creative vision. 

ABOUT CURATOR INDIRA CESARINE
Indira Cesarine’s work as a curator for The Untitled Space gallery includes exhibitions (HOTEL) XX for SPRING/BREAK Art Show 2018, ”Secret Garden,” presenting the female gaze on erotica; “SHE INSPIRES,” a group show of 60 artists exhibiting works honoring inspirational women; the internationally-celebrated group shows “UPRISE / ANGRY WOMEN,” and “ONE YEAR OF RESISTANCE” responding to the political climate in America since the election of Donald Trump as well as numerous other critically-acclaimed exhibitions. To submit your work please review the guidelines below:

• Artists should have an educational background in art and/or strong exhibition track record.
• We do not accept walk ins or any unsolicited artwork shipped by mail.
• Acceptable sculpture mediums include metal, stone, clay, wood, glass, recycled materials as well as mixed media and 2d, or wall installation works.
• Works can be figuartive or abstract.
• Artwork must be created within the last 5 years.
• Small to medium size sculptures will be prioritized (under 40”) with maximum size of sculptures 96” inches height.
• Artists may submit up to 5 digital images of artwork (jpeg format) for consideration.
• Artwork image sizes must be minimum 1000 pixels – maximum 2000 pixels JPEGS in sRGB mode (only).
• Each jpeg must be titled with “Artist Name–Title of Artwork–Year”
• Each submission of work or series of works must include a description of the art and mediums used, as well as a statement on the subject of inspiration for the art.
• All submissions must include your artist biography, artist statement, a description of the art submitted as well as basic info for each work including title, year created, medium, dimensions, suggested price, and edition size + number if relevant.
• Any oversized (larger than 72″), overweight (more than 30lbs) or works requiring special installation must be installed by the artist.
• All transportation of works is responsibility of artist, and works requiring a pedestal may require the artist to provide.
• If your work requires a pedestal or any special stands, you must note that in the description of the artwork.
• All submissions should include a photo of the artist that can be used for promotion of the exhibit if selected. A portrait with artwork is preferred.
• Works submitted must be available for exhibition and for sale.
• Consignment terms run though the exhibit of the show at the gallery as well as for 60 days after gallery exhibit closing for the online exhibition of works on Artsy .
• All works must be original artwork by the artist submitting the materials.
• All artists must apply via submission form
