Call for Artists: "Borders" exhibition

New York Photography Diary is going to London, and we’re looking for photographers to submit their work on the theme of “Borders,” to be exhibited at Carmel by the Green Gallery in East London.

Borders can encompass the geographical outline of a country, or the edges of a photo frame. What they permit and what they exclude speaks volumes about how we define ourselves as individuals, communities, and nations. Our changing relationship to the socio-political, economic, and cultural climate of a particular time and place is reflected in such shifting boundaries. Borders are far from an arbitrary means of separation; for better or worse, they allow us to (re)establish a sense of self.

We are seeking contributions for our upcoming exhibition that explore the tensions and consequences caused by the contemporary realignment of traditional borders.  Inspiration might be found in separatist tendencies in the US, immigration and the post-Brexit landscape, to more conceptual interpretations of this theme, such as the way new digital imaging technologies have helped expand images outside of their traditional rectangular frames.

Selected works will be exhibited at Carmel by the Green in East London between September 29th and November 29th 2016.  All submissions must be received by Thursday, September 1st to be eligible for consideration.
