Looks Good On Paper, National Paper Arts Exhibition

This juried exhibition will showcase diverse practices and concepts in paper arts including trends and advances in the art of hand papermaking, politics of paper/papermaking, and explorations of the materiality of paper itself.

LOCATION

Work will be exhibited in Pyramid Atlantic's Helen C. Frederick Gallery, August 19-October 2, 2022.

JURORS

Cindy Cheng, Kelly Taylor Mitchell, Gretchen Schermerhorn

Cindy Cheng lives and works in Baltimore, MD. She has been a resident at the Vermont Studio Center, the Anderson Ranch Artist Residency and in 2020 was set to participate in the Joan Mitchell Center Residency but that has been postponed until 2022/23. She is a recipient of a 2018 Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters & Sculptors Grant and in 2017 she won the Sondheim Artscape Award.

Kelly Taylor Mitchell is an artist and educator who lives and works in Atlanta, GA. She is currently an Artist-in-Residence with the Studio Artist Program at The Atlanta Contemporary and a Working Artist Project Fellow with The Museum of Contemporary Art Georgia. She is also an Assistant Professor of Art and Visual Culture and the Art Program Director at Spelman College.

Gretchen Schermerhorn is currently the Artistic Director at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center. She received her MFA in Printmaking from Arizona State University, and since then has completed artist residencies at The Women’s Studio Workshop in New York, Columbia College Center for Book and Paper in Chicago, Seacourt Print Workshop in Northern Ireland, California State University and the Robert Rauschenberg Residency in Florida. She is currently part of the adjunct faculty at Johns Hopkins University, where she teaches Printmaking and Book Arts.

ELIGIBILITY

2D and 3D works on/in paper, where the paper is an important conceptual or technical aspect of the work. Prints, drawings, alternative photo processes on paper, pulp paintings and pulp sculptures, sculptural techniques in paper, recycled paper, folded, cut, pierced, or otherwise manipulated paper, and mixed media paper pieces are all eligible for entry.

Prizes:

Three jurors prizes will be awarded at the opening reception on August 19.

SALES 

Pyramid retains a 40% commission on sold works. We prefer to exhibit works that are for sale and will aim for 90% of the works in this exhibition to be available for purchase. Please make sure that 50% or more of the works you submit are for sale and indicate their prices in the work description.
