JUSTICE

What comes to mind when you see the word JUSTICE? Does JUSTICE conjure images of throngs of people marching for civil rights or youth holding signs at a climate change rally? Perhaps you think of issues surrounding systemic racism, data privacy, urban design, labor, food deserts, or how public goods are dispersed.

What happens when we focus on notions of JUSTICE that address the policies that govern our communities, the products that shape our lives, and even the health of the planet? JUSTICE can be personal, political, and often in a state of change with respect to history, newly evolving digital spaces, or different stages of life. Thus, as our global society evolves, our ideas of JUSTICE often need to be reevaluated, updated, and discussed.

In 2022-2023, Science Gallery Atlanta will open the JUSTICE exhibition season with a 9,000-square-foot exhibition at the historic Pullman Rail Yards, accompanied by a suite of public programs -- all informed by a global community of creatives and thought leaders in collaboration with artists, researchers, and youth from the Atlanta region, plus area research universities and organizations. JUSTICE will examine the relationships between individuals and the systems that impact their lives, the intersection of those systems more broadly, and the agency of individuals to influence those institutions.

Topics for development and partnership include (but are not limited to):

social justice and civil rights

race, gender, LGBTQ+ equality and rights

criminal and procedural justice

environmental and climate justice

algorithmic and data justice

epistemic equity

disability and accessibility justice

immigration justice

child and human rights

food justice

transportation justice

health access and healthcare inequities

labor movements

design and the built environment

economic policy and wage disparities
