Mass Energy Exhibition

Hello image makers.  

Do we miss the mass-energy of crowds and gatherings, or does the thought of being in a large group of people fill us with fear?

2020 was a year defined by social-distancing and physical separation due to the Covid19 pandemic. Based on new scientific data, we currently understand that crowds and mass gatherings pose a potential health risk to ourselves and broader communities. The Covid19 pandemic has transformed our collective behaviour. So much has changed to our social lives and the ways we engage in group activity. These changes are unprecedented and historical. 

To explore and consider these changes to society, Mass Energy has launched an open submission photographic zine and exhibition project that interogates our new relationship to crowds and mass gatherings in the age of social distancing. Mass Energy seeks to understand and address how we now feel about the phenomenon of crowds and mass gatherings during the Covid19 pandemic. We undertsand that the social lives of young people have been affected all profits from this project will be donated to https://youngminds.org.uk/ 

Interpret the theme individually and submit your images that capture organised and spontaneous crowds and mass gatherings. For example: mosh pits, protests, raves, street parties, sports, family and community events, religious ceremonies, and other large collective events. Your image submissions might of been taken before the Pandemic and produce a nostalgia or during the pandemic and contain new and unique aspects of our new health concerns.

A selection of submissions will be featured in a printed photo zine, designedand published by photographer, @tommy_sussex. Selected pictures will be exhibited online and at a physical exhibition in London following the easing of lockdown restrictions in the U.K. The process of being part of this project will connect image-makers and explore how we view mass gatherings in 2021 during the largest health crisis of the modern era.

1. INCLUDE THE LOCATION THE PICTURE WAS TAKEN AND THE DATE
2. INCLUDE A CAPTION AND STORY ABOUT THE EVENT IF POSSIBLE 
3. IMAGE SIZE: 210mm x 297mm (A4) @ 300 DPI OR AS LARGE AS POSSIBLE 
4. NAME YOUR FILES: FIRSTNAME_SURNAME_01.JPG 
5. SEND 1 - 5 IMAGES TO MASSENERGYPHOTO@GMAIL.COM 
6. EMAIL SUBJECT: MASS ENERGY PHOTO SUBMISSION 
7. PLEASE INCLUDE PERSONAL WEBSITE & INSTAGRAM IN EMAIL AND ANY

DEADLINE FOR PHOTOGRAPHIC SUBMISSIONS IS MIDNIGHT 15th APRIL 
2021.
