Splendor Buttons Zine ISSUE NO. 2 ⚡️ OPEN CALL ⚡️A Zine In Solidarity

Splendor Buttons is a zine where social justice and fashion intersect.

Our premier issue, The “What Just Happened?” Issue, discussed how Social Distancing and Covid-19 exposed many pre-existing conditions in our society regarding luxury, privilege, class, and race.

Since Issue No. 1 was released, we have seen and learned of the deaths of George Floyd, Amaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and many others. All of these deaths have taken place in the background of Covid-19, a pandemic where Black Americans have been disproportionately impacted.

For Issue No. 2 — and forevermore — we are committed to standing in solidarity with Black lives, not only in the artist communities we are a part of, but in the world.

This issue is to honor those who have suffered and lost their lives to systemic racism (overt and non-overt), police brutality, white supremacy, and racial injustice.

We encourage EVERYONE to contribute.

We understand most people are out protesting and organizing or are simply just drained, which is why we want you to know this is low stakes.

Your submission can be something you jotted down while at a protest, a text message exchange you had with a friend, and it can also be a piece of writing you spent a long time on, or a painting that took you weeks.

Contribute anything you have made, past or present, that you are proud of and want to share.

BIPOC, your voices are powerful. We especially want to hear from you. We are dedicated to listening to your stories, and

supporting and amplifying your voices.

Non-POC and White people, we want to hear your voices in solidarity. We are all learning a lot right now, and more importantly, learning how much we don’t know. And that’s okay. Now is the time to soul search. We want to hear what you have learned and what you are dedicated to doing as an ally .

People based or from outside the US, America’s racism problem does not take place in a vacuum. Your voices and experiences tell the larger story, as racism and anti-blackness is global. *Nods to World Map*
