March Open Call: Metamorphosis

Our March Open Call, “Metamorphosis," has been created by our 34 Gallery Advisor & Artist, Lawrence W. Lee, to explore the theme of personal change. Previous Winners can be found on the Open Calls page of our website. This initiative aims to channel the power of art to explore monthly mental health themes, particularly those related to loneliness and feelings of despair.

• “There’s no rule that you have to be the same person today that you were yesterday.”

We are all creatures of change, whether it be the slow change of centuries, the moving beat of our internal tides, or even our hopes and dreams as they change daily.  Artists are uniquely qualified to explore those shifting seas. Share how you have changed or how the world has changed around you. Or artfully describe the process by which you find yourself changing under the pressures of technology and climate change.

Additional themes: Also consider how your work can improve the mental health of someone else at this time. Show the delicate balance of staying positive despite hardship, remaining true to yourself, and finding light in the darkness. 

Requirements: Submit up to 3 works by Feb. 27th. Include the following questions in your cover letter:

• Your artist name, artwork titles, and website/social media links. 
• 1 - 2 paragraphs describing the creative process regarding your work & how it fits with the Open Call Theme.
• 1 - 2 paragraphs describing aspects of your life that facilitated personal change and/or growth. This could be a person, place, emotion, memory or tangible item. Second option: describe how actions you have taken in your life have improved the world around you for the better. 

Selected artists will be notified by March 10th.

Restrictions:

• Be advised that this open call also includes a global youth & adult audience.
• Works that are sexually graphic and/or advocate violence (self or others), discrimination, or hatred (societal/gender/religious/cultural) of any kind will be disqualified.
• Technique for this call is open but not limited to: Open Medium. Audiovisual & A.I. Artwork Accepted.
