Skip Art Challenge

Are you a talented artist ready to showcase your creativity on an unconventional canvas? 

Brown Recycling invites you to participate in our Skip Art Challenge, an exciting and unique project that brings together 10 artists to transform ordinary skips into extraordinary works of art.

About the challenge:

The Brown Recycling Skip Art Challenge aims to raise funds for Dougie Mac Hospice. Additionally, the challenge promotes recycling and sustainability through artistic expression. Each of the 10 artists selected by the Skip Art judging panel will be provided with a Brown Recycling skip, which they will transform using their unique artistic style.

Artist participation:

• The challenge is open to artists over the age of 18 from all disciplines and backgrounds. Both emerging and established artists are encouraged to apply.
• All submissions will be reviewed by the Skip Art Challenge judging panel and 10 selected to apply their design to a refurbished skip.
• Artists must be able to travel to the designated location for the painting, which will be in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent.
• Artists will have 1 week to complete their work in August.
• Artists will receive a £500 commission for their work.
• Promotion of the competition and the selected artists’ work will be provided through Brown Recycling’s and the sponsors’ networks.

Important dates:

• Submission deadline: June 17, 2024 – July 17, 2024
• Artist selection: July 22, 2024 – July 26, 2024
• Painting period: August 5, 2024 – August 31, 2024

Submission requirements:

• A brief artist statement (max 200 words)
• A proposed design of your skip using the provided template – please supply two templates if the design will vary between the two sides of the skip
• A portfolio of previous work (up to 3 images)
