About the program
The Arts + Public Life (APL) exhibitions program at the Arts Incubator Gallery in Washington Park offers a platform for Chicago-based artists to thoughtfully engage with the global, contemporary art world in a localized environment. The unique positioning of this program acts as a catalyst for collaboration and exchange, creating a dynamic and critical space.

As part of the exhibition program, APL collaborates with local emerging or mid-career curators who are interested in exhibitions showcasing the work of local and national artists. Preference will be given to curators who are exploring themes and topics relevant to South Side communities.
Curators are expected to collaborate with the APL curatorial team and are provided with institutional guidance and resources, and support for related public programming and marketing.

CALL FOR EXHIBITION PROPOSALS
Chicago-based curators and creative thinkers are invited to propose fresh and original exhibition ideas that feature exceptional artists, designers, and thinkers. We are searching for collaborators interested in challenging contemporary curatorial practice.

Proposals should seek to push beyond the traditional use of the gallery space through experimentation with ideas, technology, mediums, exhibition design, and audience engagement.  Special consideration will be given to plans that address residents of the Washington Park area, and students and faculty of the University of Chicago.   Applications are open to curators, curatorial collectives, designers, and innovators of all experience levels.

Selected proposals should demonstrate bold and interesting ideas with a high level of organization and attention to detail. Recipients will work with the Arts + and Public Life curatorial team, and will receive marketing and production support along with a $4,000.00 exhibition budget. Applications will be considered for multiple exhibition opportunities in 2020.
