TerraCycle® RFP for exterior mural 25th anniversary celebration

Overview:
TerraCycle is seeking an artist or artist team to design and paint a large-scale mural in celebration of our 25th anniversary. As a global leader in sustainability with a mission of Eliminating the Idea of Waste®, TerraCycle develops recycling, recycled materials, and reuse solutions for hard-to-recycle trash.Through an open Call for Artists Request Request for Proposals (RFP) process, we will solicit applicants, review submissions, and select a qualified artist or artist team for this project. 

Mural location and dimensions:
The mural will be painted on an exterior wall at 1 TerraCycle Way, Trenton, NJ. It will be visible to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
Dimensions are:
Main wall: Approximately 180’ long; height ranges from 18’ tall at the highest point and slopes down to 8’ tall at the shortest.

Theme and creative direction:
Artists are encouraged to creatively interpret TerraCycle’s 25-year evolution and mission. Inspiration may be drawn from milestones found in the About us and Innovation section of our website, including our origins, product innovations, and global environmental impact. This site covers our humble beginnings recycling worm poop to pioneering reusable packaging through Loop. All artistic styles and interpretations are welcome.

 
Budget:
Artist Fee: $3,500 (covers concept development and mural painting)
Materials: Up to $1,000 (separate budget)
A solid background color will be pre-painted, selected in collaboration with the chosen artist(s).

Additional Perks:
Lunch and snacks provided during installation
Artist photography including headshots in front of mural and video content highlighting the mural process
Access to onsite coworking space and a covered painting area for personal work (available for 6 months)
Opportunity to involve TerraCycle employees and community members in the painting (e.g. guided linework participation)
A dedication plaque and ribbon-cutting ceremony with muralist recognition

Timeline:
Submission deadline: May 29, 2025 
Artist notification: early – mid June 2025
Mural completion deadline: July 30, 2025
Ribbon cutting ceremony: early August 2025, exact date TBD

Eligibility:
This call is open to all U.S.-based artists. Preference will be given to those with a connection to Trenton, NJ, or those who contribute to the local arts community.

Application Requirements:
All applications should be submitted through this form. Please include:
Artist Statement – Explain your design concept and approach. 
Proposed Mural Design – Submit a sketch or digital rendering.
Resume/CV – Highlight relevant mural or public art experience.
References – (optional) Provide 2–3 references with contact information.
Work Samples – (optional) Include a URL, social media account or up to 10 images of past relevant work.
