Students displaced by Art Institute of Philadelphia closure welcome to explore options at Delaware College of Art and Design

Country:

Students whose plans to complete a degree at the Art Institute of Philadelphia have been derailed by the school’s recently announced plans to close are invited to explore higher education possibilities at Delaware College of Art and Design.

The Art Institute of Philadelphia will cease to operate as of Aug. 28. DCAD’s fall semester will commence that same day.

Like the Art Institute of Philadelphia, DCAD offers degree studies in animation and graphic design. These and DCAD’s other two-year associate’s programs – in fine arts, illustration and photography – prepare students for transfer into bachelor’s programs at four-year colleges and universities throughout the state, region and beyond.

In addition, DCAD’s continuing education program offers professional development courses in the Art Institute of Philadelphia majors of interior design and graphic and web design. These can be taken individually or compiled for a certificate of completion.

Full-time degree-program tuition at DCAD is approximately $24,000 per year – about the same as was charged by the Art Institute of Philadelphia. This is significantly less than the $30,000 to $40,000 charged per year at most four-year art and design schools in the United States. Costs for continuing education courses vary.

“Our admissions deadline for Fall 2018 is Aug. 1, and students who would have been entering their first or second year at the Art Institute of Philadelphia are welcome to contact us to see how they could begin or continue their higher education without interruption at DCAD,” said Dean Katy Ro. “As an accredited, nonprofit institution, DCAD is eager to assist students whose career goals require completion of a high-quality professional art and design program.”

DCAD previously worked to enroll art and design students affected by the closure of Antonelli Institute, and a number of students planning to study at the Art Institute of Philadelphia this year already have contacted DCAD. Others interested in exploring degree-program enrollment options at DCAD for Fall 2018 should contact the Admissions Office by visiting the campus at 600 N. Market St. in Wilmington, Del.; calling (302) 622-8000; or emailing admissions@dcad.edu. Anyone interested in non-degree classes should visit campus or contact Randle Reed at (302) 622-8000, ext. 123, or rreed@dcad.edu.
