Workshop and exhibition by innovative artist Henry Bermudez starring amid Nov. 2 Delaware Innovation Week kickoff at DCAD

A cut-paper workshop with an innovative artist and the chance to view his current exhibition will join technology demonstrations and a statewide networking party as part of Technical.ly Delaware’s first-ever Delaware Innovation Week Kickoff. The event will be hosted at Delaware College of Art and Design, 600 N. Market St., on Friday, Nov. 2, in conjunction with Art Loop Wilmington.

“Henry Bermudez in Black and White” opened in DCAD’s Toni & Stuart B. Young Gallery on Oct. 5 and will continue in the first-floor venue through Nov. 25. On Nov. 2, the Philadelphia-based artist – who has represented his home country of Venezuela in the Venice Biennale – will discuss the three-dimensional, cut-paper “drawings” he currently has installed at DCAD during a free artist’s talk there from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Both the Art Loop and the DIW Kickoff event will begin at 5 p.m. and run until 8 p.m. DCAD is offering free snacks and a cash bar along with the chance to view the Bermudez show as part of Art Loop.

The DIW Kickoff will take place on the second floor of the DCAD building. It will preview what’s planned for the rest of Delaware’s fourth annual, week-long celebration of technology and innovation. The event also will provide attendees with the opportunity to collect branded swag; interact with innovation sponsors, stakeholders and consumer companies; and enjoy tech demos, complimentary snacks and a cash bar. Also beginning at 5 p.m. will be the “Art of Paper Cutting Workshop” with Bermudez. Participants will create their own cut-paper pieces based in the process Bermudez used to create the drawn figures, jungle themes and other designs showcased in his exhibition. A final feature of the evening will be the opening of an exhibition of work created and curated by DCAD students. A reception for this show will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. in DCAD’s Tatiana Copeland Student Center Gallery, located on the first floor of the Saville Residence Hall at Sixth and Market streets across from the DCAD building.

From Nov. 3 to 25, gallery hours for “Henry Bermudez in Black and White” will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Hours for the student exhibition will be by appointment after the opening.
