Natural Disaster Relief for Visual Artists Fellowship

Category:

Eligibility:

The Byrdcliffe Art Community has received a generous grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation for visual artists living/working in North America (including Mexico and Puerto Rico) who have been displaced or otherwise affected by a natural disaster. This grant includes artists affected by the earthquakes in Mexico, wildfires in California, hurricanes in Puerto Rico, Florida, and Texas, tornadoes, and other natural disasters. Please note that destruction of a home or studio by extremes of weather (e.g. pipes bursting due to freezing, etc) are not covered by this grant.

The Pollock-Krasner grant will offer a full fellowship and stipends to attend the four-week residency in Woodstock, NY for up to 4 selected visual artists. The grant will cover all fees plus provide a stipend up to $500 to assist with travel to and from the residency and an additional materials reimbursement up to $500 to help compensate for lost and damaged materials. Eligible disciplines include painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, weaving, ceramics, and other visual media.

Artists awarded this grant-funded residency are provided a private studio and private bedroom within one of two communal buildings with shared baths, kitchens, and common areas. Each session hosts 16-21 artists and lasts just under four weeks. All activities are optional. There is a weekly grocery/supply trip and artists are invited to participate in optional  programming such as a welcome dinner, work-share, weekly Barn Cafes, outings, and more, or residents can choose to work in solitude during their entire stay. Sessions conclude with an Open Studio event at the Villetta Inn, a quintessential Summer Woodstock happening that combines visual arts, readings, music, and community. This event is free to the public with refreshments served. Residents will have an opportunity to participate in an exhibition at Byrdcliffe’s Kleinert/James Center for the Arts following their residency.
