Open call: Art Explora – Cité internationale des arts Residency Programme 2024-2025

Category:

Eligibility:

Art Explora joined forces in 2021 with the Cité internationale des arts to create a biannual residency programme for artists and researchers in the Cité internationale des arts in Montmartre, just a stone’s throw from Sacré-Cœur. The programme gives artists and researchers from all over the world the opportunity to engage in research and creative work in the heart of Paris, in collaboration with the French art scene and professionals. It encourages creation in all its forms, disseminating it to the largest possible public.

The residency programme is open to artists and collectives of artists, researchers, and curators of all nationalities, with no age limit, with at least five years of professional experience and who presented their work and research on an international scale. Residency projects should address the links between art and science, scientific and technological exploration, and the major social and environmental issues of our time.

Candidates can apply to two types of residency programme:
- SOLO programme: open to artists only, for a residency of 3 or 6 months, during two sessions: March-August 2024 / September 2024-February 2025

- COLLECTIVE programme: open to a collective or duo of artists, researchers, and curators, for a 3-month residency during 4 sessions: March-May 2024 / June-August 2024 / September-November 2024 / December 2024-February 2025

Around 20 residents are selected each year. In addition to evaluating the candidate’s professional background, the members of the selection committee pay particular attention to the quality of the project, its link with the themes of the residency and the importance of its location in France for the development of the research.

The selection committee is made up of leading figures from the world of art and research:

– Magalí Arriola (Mexico): Art critic and Director of the Museo Tamayo of Contemporary Art

– Diana Campbell Betancourt (USA & Bangladesh): Artistic Director of the Samdani Art Foundation and Chief Curator of the Dhaka Art Summit

– Emanuele Coccia (France & Italy): Philosopher and Associate Professor at EHESS

– Isabelle Gaudefroy (France): Deputy Artistic Director of the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain

– Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikun (Cameroon): Director of the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) in Berlin

– Hans Ulrich Obrist (UK & Switzerland): Artistic Director of the Serpentine Galleries

Around 20 residents are selected each year. In addition to evaluating the candidate’s professional background, the members of the selection committee pay particular attention to the quality of the project, its link with the themes of the residency, and the importance of its location in France for the development of the research.

Throughout their residency, the artists and researchers benefit from tailor-made support and contact with professionals from the French and international art scenes, as well as with the other residents of the Cité internationale des arts. A public program including studio visits, workshops, performances, lectures, discussions, and film screenings is developed twice a year by Art Explora, the Cité internationale des arts, and the Académie des beaux-arts during the Open Studios: Les Rencontres de Montmartre.
