OPEN CALL – special BOOK project Artist in Residency program

We-Che art Residency is an independent artist run project. 
Situated in South Patagonia Argentina, We-Che is one of the most Austral Art Residency. In a 2ha field facing inspiring mountains views and natural surrounding, with a river crossing, close to a natural park with waterfalls. A quiet workspace conducive to constructive exchanges on professional and emotive approaches towards new experiences and aesthetic realities. Multi-layered cultural exchanges through meditative nature observation, as a human scale adventure.
We prioritize practices that respect the Nature and the people who inhabit it. We encourage projects searching to connect to Patagonia as a natural historical and cultural environnement (fauna & wild life, flora, landscape, and History) and promoting the interaction and respectful relationships between Art and Nature.

We welcome creators from all discipline if their project fits to We-Che, thats to say we also evaluate if our structure is able or not to give all necessary space to what they want to create. Thats why we will also pay attention during selection process, to mix artists in order they form a good « team » and manage to make an harmonious balanced blend that promote the better experience to each one.

Duration of residency

The Special BOOK Project AIR program has a minimum duration of one month, extra weeks can be added.
It is a half self directed half guided residency with a punctual collective or individual mentorship when needed to support each project and achieve each-one’s book in a 25 days residency from A to Z.Residents are free to work on several books projects, and depending to affinities, to work together on a grupal book also.

Accommodation

There are 3 accommodation spaces : 2 individual Tiny-Studio with mountains view, a spacious private bathroom, a Kitchenette, a small desk with huge window facing the mountains and the valley and a sunny exterior deck.
Upstairs in the third space, The "&" Galpon, Casa de los artistas, is another private accommodation under the roof, that can be shared by two artists with a splittable doble bed (possibility of 2 single beds) with 1 private bathroom cabinet with shower, and a private spacious balcony. Possibility of 2 separate desks.
 

Disciplines, work equipment and assistance

Any book related discipline are welcome, amongst them writers and poets, story-tellers, photographers, paper-artists and small format 2D practices (Drawing, botanical drawings, natural eco prints, collage & die-cut, watercolor, sketching), graphic-novelists, travel writers, … willing to achieve a book project. We have a special love for books, and a long experience as graphic designers, artists and author, in editing and making books of any kind, at any diffusion scale.  For hand crafted books projects we will set up the shared work space for it, with a special focus on hand crafting autonomous possibilities (manual tools for special folding, paper and cardboard cutting tools, sewing machine, book-binding press…) and paper-art and drawing facilities.
