Artist residency in southern Italy, July 2019

Pietraroia lies in the Matese mountains. It is a small village situated in a stunning mountainous setting. The locals have a strong local food tradition, plus the wine of Campania is consistently prize-winning. Archaeological sites are also nearby, as are many other villages, each with their own character. It is also home to a paleontology museum. Pietraroia is situated about two hours north of Naples, making it possible to do daytrips or overnight trips to Naples, Caserta (home of the Caserta Palace), Pompeii, the Amalfi coast, and Benevento. Summertime is the season for festivals where each village celebrates their local food traditions such as cheese or olive oil. The residency program is open but as it is located in the heart of the village in a schoolhouse provided by the municipality, artists working with community-engaged projects are encouraged to apply.
