ARCUS Research 2026 Summer Residency Program

ARCUS Research is a self-directed residency program that offers an uninterrupted time and contemplative environment for creative experimentation, in-depth fieldwork, and research.

The program enables not only artists but also curators, researchers, writers, and practitioners in the cultural field to engage in creative discourses and activities. Located in an hour from Tokyo and close to Mt. Tsukuba, ARCUS Research provides a calm environment and working space where participants can reflect and unwind the creative process.

We are currently accepting applications for the summer 2026. The application deadline is December 8th, 2025.

Duration of residency

One-month residency: 1 or 2 participants on each duration

• May 28 ‒ June 26, 2026
• July 2 ‒ July 31, 2026

Two-month residency: 1 or 2 participants

• May 28 ‒ July 31, 2026

Fees and support

One-month residency: JPY270,000 Two-month residency: JPY520,000 (tax included)

The fee includes studio space, accommodation, and basic consultation and orientation at the beginning of the residency program. Please note that the accommodation is only for single occupants; an additional fee is charged for further occupants. Additional support such as interpretation, translation, and coordination for research or a project is available for a fee. The participants are required to cover transportation, meals, insurance (accident, health, liability, etc.), work expenses, and other living expenses during their stay.
