We open the door for artistic development.

DOOR Creative Studio re-purposes vacant and underused buildings and turns them into spaces for creative projects.

Our residency program is aimed at supporting the development and production of art, artistic risk-taking and exhibiting the work to the public. 

We facilitate non-commercial artistic projects by offering rent-free usage of our 3000m2 industrial factory building Magazijn De Dood, located near Het HEM in Hembrugterrein, Zaandam.

Open Call

We welcome applications for artist studios, exhibitions, performances and workshops.

To apply, submit your portfolio and a project proposal in English to residencies@openthedoor.nl

Please indicate the duration of the project. The length may last from 1 day up to 3 months.

Depending on the volume and specificity of the selected proposals, studio spaces might be shared among participants.

Networking opportunities and promotion.

Not covered by host

Material and production costs, travel, living, accommodation, utilities. Utility bills can be compensated through skills exchanges instead of money.

Our residents in 2020 included Sandberg Instituut and Carmen Schabracq. 

Our spaces

We are located at the Hembrugterrein, a former industrial estate in Zaandam. Our 3000m2 building Magazijn De Dood spans across 3 floors, each of 1000m2, scoping from natural light to full blackout.
