We are delighted to announce the open call for our Online Residency Program, inviting eco, social, and political artists worldwide to participate in a six-week online program from January 6th to February 14th 2025

This 6-week online residency program aims to create an atmosphere of collaboration and connection, where international eco artists can come together and grow their practice in the areas of sustainability and expand their art practice through feedback and mutual support.

Residency Theme:

This residency program is not just about artistic growth; it's about building networks and a community of artists through active dialogue, ideas exchange, and critical thinking. By joining this program, you'll be able to work on specific projects, connect with fellow artists, and work together to create a new stratosphere of creativity and inspiration.

In an effort to create a more intimate space for collaboration and growth, the program only accepts a range of five to ten participants. This way we ensure all perspectives are heard and everyone has the opportunity to take part in discussions and collaboration.

Program Details:

  • Residency Duration: Six weeks

  • Time Frame: January 6th –  February 14th

What We Offer:

  • Full program for the entire residency

  • Weekly live group meetings with fellow artists focused on your work- discussion and exchange, helping you to better conceptualise your art projects moderated by IOAEA team.

  • Weekly individual curatorial support with curator Joana Alarcão via video call, to discuss work progress, dissemination etc.

  • Weekly lectures focusing on ecological art and artists, to help you frame your practice within the ecological international art community and gain new knowledge on how fellow artists are innovating and creating within this field.

  • Becoming part of the international IOAEA community; getting access to our network space and exclusive opportunities.

  • Diffusion and promotion

  • Residency profile on IOAEA website

  • Personal interview on the IOAEA website

  • Exhibit your project in a group show in our online gallery at the end of the residency program

Program Commitment and Flexibility:

Participants are expected to commit to the program for the entire six-week duration. Although we understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise therefore if an artist is unable to attend some meetings we are flexible to find alternative arrangements or record sections.

Application Process:

The online program is open to emerging and mid-career visual artists, multidisciplinary artists, curators, and art researchers from all around the world whose works focus on ecological practices.

The selection of candidates for the online residency is made by Joana Alarcão, the curator and founder of IOAEA. Candidates are chosen based on the quality of their work and their motivation to participate in this online residency.

Fee:

Artists can send their submissions for free and selected artists will be informed via email about the next steps.

Only selected artists will incur a participation fee of €250 for our six-week program. While we are currently unable to provide personal funding, we are excited to offer a fully funded opportunity for one artist each month. If you require a scholarship, please indicate this in your application; otherwise, we will not be able to consider you for the scholarship.

Please note that this is an organisation built by artists for artists therefore our residency fee supports our efforts as an artist-run organization, independently built and maintained by working artists. This contribution enables us to continue offering free initiatives and scholarships for artists seeking opportunities to gain exposure, connect with peers, and advance their careers in the arts.
