Residency for Artist or Writer Studio in Dulan Village, Taitung County, Taiwan

An artist's studio has become available for Residency in eastern Taiwan  for two periods of 4 months each in 2023,  The first period is fixed (15 February-15 June), the second is negotiable.

The studio has an interior room (low natural light, good artificial /neon light) and natural light in gated  exterior working space, with village road view and mountain view on the horizon. The studio has a small bedroom attached. a  kitchen and bathroom with hot water and refrigerator and it is walking distance from oceanfront, mountain side,. forest and public transport.

The residency offers sole occupancy of the  living and working space for Taiwanese and international artist and/or writer  wishing to live in a quiet artist village in the most scenic part of Taiwan, the artists is required to pay a contribution towards the rental a maintenance of the space.

EU passport holders do not need a visa to stay up to 90 days in Taiwan.  The resident artist may also choose to send work for forthcoming exhibition in UK,and will be invited to participate be part of an international indepdenent artists collective. The residency concludes with an interview and/or other activity. and a certificate of Artist Residence issued by the Hos. Public transport is regular to Taitung and Hualien and the main train stations. Shops and amenities nearby.

Doulan is one of the most sought after locations in Taiwan for artists. with easy access to ocean front. swimming, surfing and hiking. The studio is close to shops and public transport

CONDITIONS

The resident artist must apply in Egnlish, sending an email to the Host with biography, motivation and a description of the activities they intend to carry out. Upon acceptance of the application, the Host will share a video of the studio space and will arrange a preliminary interview.  When both parties agree to all arrangements,  the resident must deposit in advance the cost of the rental of the  living working space) (approx 200 USD per monthx4). The resident may use the house scooter during the residency at no extra cost. No other use is permitted for the studio than residence and personal work of the resident.  During their stay the resident will have the chance to visit local cafes and artists studios. engage in international exhibition opportunities (optional) The resident artist commits to contribute in a co-curation capacity and one piece of artwork to the studio upon conclusion of the residency period and one other activity to be agreed.
